New York, NY, January 30, 2025 – The Paley Museum announced today that it will host its first PaleyImpact program of 2025: Making Soap Opera History with CBS’s Beyond the Gates. This Black History Month Experience Presented by Citi will feature a screening of the premiere episode of the series followed by a conversation with members of the cast and creative team. The event will take place on Thursday, February 20 at 6:30 pm at The Paley Museum in Midtown. In addition to this exciting event, Citi has also partnered with The Paley Museum for the Black History Month exhibit Celebrating the Black Heroes of Football’s Biggest Game.
“Beyond the Gates is a fun and intriguing look into the world of the powerful Duprees and all their tantalizing secrets,” said Maureen J. Reidy, President & CEO, The Paley Center for Media. “We’re thrilled to offer visitors to The Paley Museum a behind-the-scenes look at this exciting new series and we extend our deepest thanks to our friends at Citi for their generous support of this program as well as our highly anticipated exhibit.”
Beyond the Gates is the first-ever, one-hour Black daytime soap opera, and the first new daytime drama in twenty-six years. Set in a posh gated Maryland community located in one of the country’s most affluent African American counties, the CBS series focuses on the Duprees, a powerful and prestigious multigenerational family that is the very definition of Black royalty. In classic soap opera fashion, everyone has plenty of juicy secrets and scandals waiting to be uncovered. After screening the series premiere, The Paley Museum will gather actors Tamara Tunie (Anita Dupree) and Daphnee Duplaix (Dr. Nicole Dupree Richardson), and executive producer Sheila Ducksworth for a conversation about the groundbreaking series moderated by Vladmir Duthiers, featured host of CBS Mornings.
Beyond the Gates, which premieres Monday, February 24, on CBS, and will also stream on Paramount+, is developed and produced by the CBS Studios/NAACP Venture, in partnership with P&G Studios, a division of Procter & Gamble. The CBS Studios/NAACP production venture was established to help elevate a diverse range of voices as well as increase the visibility of Black artists on broadcast and streaming platforms in an ever-evolving media landscape.
The Black History Month exhibit Celebrating the Black Heroes of Football’s Biggest Game, showcases the Black athletes whose spectacular talent and leadership skills helped propel their team to Super Bowl glory and inspired young people of all backgrounds to pursue their dreams in sports and beyond. The exhibit includes the twenty Black players named Super Bowl MVPs and several other pioneering Big Game athletes, coaches, and performers, documenting how their Super success has broken down barriers and demonstrated excellence at the highest level. It also displays memorabilia including game-used footballs, jerseys, the player draft cards of Patrick Mahomes and Von Miller, and more. The exhibit is currently open and will run through Sunday, March 30.
Tickets for this program are now on sale to all Paley Members and will go on sale to the general public on Friday, January 31 at noon ET. Paley Members also receive free entry to the Celebrating the Black Heroes of Football’s Biggest Game exhibit and receive Members-Only discounts on year-round Paley programs and events.
