The Paley Center Media Council’s Innovators Series, sponsored by Accenture and its Media & Entertainment industry group, was created in 2006 to recognize industry leaders whose work is altering the media and cultural landscapes. Previous participants in the Innovators Series include Ted Turner, Chuck Lorre, Sumner Redstone, Chris DeWolfe, Jason Kilar, Chloe Sladden, Arun Sarin, and Lauren Zalaznick. Innovators Series events have been held in New York, Los Angeles, Berlin and London. On April 9th, at a private event during NAB, we honor Google's Nikesh Arora.

Nikesh Arora, Senior Vice President and Chief Business Officer, Google

Nikesh Arora oversees all revenue and customer operations, as well as marketing and partnerships. Since joining Google in 2004, he has held several positions with the company. Most recently, he led Google’s global direct sales operations. He also developed and managed the company’s operations in the European, Middle Eastern and African markets and was responsible for creating and expanding strategic partnerships in those regions for the benefit of Google’s growing number of users and advertisers. Prior to joining Google, he was chief marketing officer and a member of the management board at T-Mobile Europe. While there, he spearheaded all product development, terminals, brand and marketing activities of T-Mobile Europe. In 1999, he started working with Deutsche Telekom and founded T-Motion PLC, a mobile multimedia subsidiary of T-Mobile International. Prior to joining Deutsche Telekom, Arora held management positions at Putnam Investments and Fidelity Investments in Boston. Arora holds a master’s degree from Boston College and an MBA from Northeastern University, both of which were awarded with distinction. He also holds the CFA designation. In 1989, he graduated from the Institute of Technology in Varanasi, India with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.

Kay Koplovitz is the founder of USA Network, a company launched in 1977, and later expanded to introduce the Sci-Fi Channel and USA Networks International. Koplovitz served as chairperson and CEO until the company was sold for $4.5 billion in 1998. Presently, Koplovitz is the chairman of the board of Liz Claiborne Inc., a company that designs and markets an extensive range of women’s and men’s fashion and accessories worldwide. She is a board member of CA Technology, the world’s leading independent IT management software company, as well as ION Media. She has also served on the boards of Oracle, Nabisco, Instinet, and General Re. In 1998, President Clinton appointed Koplovitz to chair the National Women in Business Council. While serving in that capacity, she cocreated Springboard Enterprises which was launched in 2000 to raise venture capital for women entrepreneurs. Since its inception, Springboard Enterprises has raised over $5 billion in new capital. She is also the cofounder of Boldcap Ventures, a venture capital firm invested in early and mid-stage technology, media, and health sciences companies. She is the author of Bold Women, Big Ideas (May ’02), which she wrote to inform and inspire women entrepreneurs to create wealth through equity. Koplovitz is a frequent speaker and contributor on media, capital formation, corporate governance, and leadership.
