The “Holy Grail” of Football: The First Super Bowl Broadcast!
12:30 pm — One Screening for Paley Members Only! Join Today to Attend.
The Paley Museum, 25 West 52 Street, NYC
The Paley Center is pleased to present a rare public screening of the “Holy Grail” for all football fans, the first televised Super Bowl, between the Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs, a championship game that was long thought lost. The Paley Center received a two-inch tape from Troy Haupt whose father recorded the game at a Scranton television station. Paley worked to restore and preserve this only known broadcast copy of the 1967 Super Bowl, which was telecast by two networks but not saved by either one. This unique recording has imperfections, including missing the opening of the second half, but here is the most complete telecast of the game that started an enduring American tradition. (CBS; 1967; 95 min.)
To ensure an optimal experience for all attendees and to respect the sensitivity of the content being shown, we kindly ask that you refrain from bringing cell phones into the theater. To facilitate this, all cell phones will be collected at our coat check prior to your entry into the museum and returned to you at the conclusion of the event.
