Summary

This program profiles poet/writer Charles Bukowski. Shown engaging in everyday activities such as shopping for groceries and walking or driving in Los Angeles, Bukowski talks about his childhood, his experience as a postal clerk, the problems that he has had with the women in his life, the influence that drinking has on his life and work, and some of his ideas in regard to poetic style. Interspersed are clips of Bukowski reading from some of his autobiographical works at a live presentation filmed in Los Angeles in September 1972. (This program contains some off-color language.)
