POPCORN {SPECIAL BACK-TO-SCHOOL EDITION} (TV)
Summary
One in this weekly series hosted by a changing panel of preteens who address topics and problems of relevance to children. This special Saturday night back-to-school edition, taped before a live studio audience of children, deals with such concerns as first-day jitters, wardrobe dilemmas, and how to make a good impression on a new teacher. Audience members answer questions and participate in a series of games and quizzes with the hosts, who also provide commentary and help link material between prerecorded segments. Included in these segments are a trip to a water treatment plant; a visit with motor vehicle experts who explain how horns work; interviews with movie stuntmen Fumio Demura and Yuji Okumoto, who discuss their careers and are shown in their studio teaching karate to youngsters; and a visit with the Boys Choir of Harlem as they rehearse for a West Coast tour. Commercials deleted. (This program received a 1989 Iris Award for excellence in local broadcasting.)
