FAERIE TALE THEATRE: CINDERELLA (TV)
Summary
One in this series of whimsical adaptations of fairy tales hosted by Shelley Duvall. Upon the death of her father, young Cinderella is made a slave in her own home by her cruel stepmother and two stepsisters. One day, she and her family are invited to a ball in honor of a handsome prince, but Cinderella's stepmother and stepsisters go to the dance without her. In their absence, Cinderella is visited by her fairy godmother, who magically transforms a pumpkin and some white mice into a coach and horses and Cinderella's rags into a beautiful gown. Cinderella is also given a pair of glass slippers. She races off to the ball with the knowledge that the spell will be broken at midnight and everything will return to its former state. Cinderella spends the entire evening with the prince and loses track of time. Suddenly she realizes that it is almost midnight and races out of the palace without telling the prince who she is. In this version of the classic tale, the prince, desperate to find Cinderella, holds another ball. Once again Cinderella's fairy godmother makes it possible for Cinderella to appear before the prince, and once again Cinderella loses track of time. This time, when she races off, she loses one of her glass slippers. The prince finds the slipper and, hoping to find his true love, asks every maiden in the land to try it on.
