LIFE STORY, PT. 1 (TV)
Summary
Part one of this two-part historical drama. Set in
Cambridge in 1951, it portrays the race by two brash
scientists, James Watson and Francis Crick, to discover
the structure of DNA, the genetic material that accounts
for the hereditary characteristics of living entities.
The bitter competition within the scientific community
creates many obstacles for Watson and Crick (Jeff
Goldblum and Tim Pigott-Smith), who are anxious to be
the first to make the discovery. In this part, Watson
begins to learn the X-ray defraction technique, already
mastered by colleague Rosalind Franklin, that will
eventually provide important clues about the structure
of DNA. Continues with T88:0524.
(This film appeared on the Arts & Entertainment Network
in the U.S. under the title "The Race for the Double
Helix." The program received the Golden Leopard's Eye
award in Switzerlands's Locarno Festival competition.)
