STUDIO ONE SUMMER THEATRE: THE MOTHER BIT (TV)
Summary
One in this live dramatic anthology series. In this episode, June Havoc stars as Kitty Sharpe, a temperamental television star who has neglected her daughter, Joy, in order to pursue a successful career in show business. Kitty's ex-husband has raised Joy, and when he dies, seventeen-year-old Joy goes to live with Kitty, who attempts to make up for years of parental neglect by giving up her unorthodox lifestyle in order to please her conventional daughter. Despite her efforts to conform to Joy's expectations, Kitty continues to embarrass and disappoint her by reverting to her customary raucous behavior and by becoming romantically involved with Carmen, a laborer who was hired to build a swimming pool in their backyard. When Kitty makes a last-ditch effort to communicate with Joy, Joy expresses her true feelings about Kitty, and their relationship is finally resolved. Includes commercials for Westinghouse products (with June Graham substituting for the vacationing Betty Furness); and a promo for the following week's "Studio One" episode, "The Staring Match."
