BOB HOPE PRESENTS THE CHRYSLER THEATRE: A SLOW FADE TO BLACK (TV)

Summary

One in this filmed dramatic anthology series. Bob Hope introduces the show and appears briefly (as himself) in this story of the decline of an aging movie studio chief. Globe-Kirsch Studios head Michael Kirsch (Steiger) can still handle a moody actress (Farrell), even if, as his young assistant Peter Furgatch (Culp) points out, his last six pictures have lost money. Peter tells Mike he is out of touch with the times, and Globe-Kirsch's directors want him to resign. Adding to Mike's troubles are his spiteful daughter, Jerrie (Kellerman), who refuses to help by giving him her shares in the studio, and an upcoming dinner honoring him as the 1964 "Producer of the Year." Just before the dinner, Peter tries to explain that he has been appointed the new head of the studio. At the dinner, where Bob Hope appears as himself, Mike announces his resignation. Later, watching movies from the early days of his career, Mike starts to cry. Commercials deleted. Includes messages from the sponsor, Chrysler.
