Summary
One in this anthology series of spy stories. In this program, Richard Keller, a German officer who turned against Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party in an attempt to achieve peace during World War II, returns to his homeland twenty years after the end of the war to be honored for his heroism. Flashbacks include the following: Keller's plane ride back to Germany from England, where he pictures himself talking to his late wife; the Field Marshall who had been in charge of his peace mission during the war informing him of the real reason he is being honored; his reunion with his mother, who tells him of the guilt she feels for having betrayed him in order to save herself and his family after he left Germany; a conversation with his sister, in which she displays her disgust with him over the punishment she endured as a result of his actions; a meeting with his nephew and the young man who would later shoot him; and the images and voices from the war that continued to haunt him upon his return to Germany. Keller also recalls the mission he went on during the war that earned him his heroic standing.
