HAPPY BIRTHDAY BOB {80TH} (TV)
Summary
This special honors Bob Hope on his 80th birthday. The celebration opens with Hope chatting with Pres. Ronald Reagan in the White House's Lincoln Room. The party, held at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., includes a "roast" and tribute with celebrity performances. Also featured are country singer Loretta Lynn; comedian George Burns; and dancers Mikhail Baryshnikov and Twyla Tharp, who perform to a medley sung by Frank Sinatra. President Ronald Reagan joins in the festivities by paying tribute to and publicly thanking Hope for his dedicated service to the USO. Hope delivers a monologue to wrap up the affair, which concludes with the ceremonial cutting of the birthday cake and a performance by the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard marching bands.
