GEORGE BURNS AND GRACIE ALLEN SHOW, THE: A VISIT FROM CHARLES VIDOR (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series starring the husband-and-wife team of George Burns and Gracie Allen as themselves. As the star of a television comedy series, the cigar-smoking Burns plays straight man to dizzy wife Gracie Allen, who invariably embroils him -- and their neighbors Blanche and Harry Morton -- in her zany domestic schemes. Burns also appears as commentator on the action, confiding philosophically to the audience about Gracie's madcap intrigues and predicting their outcome. In this episode, Hollywood director Charles Vidor pays a visit to George. Gracie takes the opportunity to try to get her son Ronnie's girlfriend, Bonnie, a starring role in Vidor's new picture, but Vidor is looking for someone well-known. Harry Von Zell tells Gracie that the best way for Bonnie to get publicity is to become romantically involved with a celebrity, but Gracie takes his advice a bit too far when she calls the newspaper and reports that Bonnie is engaged to Harry. When this proves ineffective, Gracie calls the paper again and says that Bonnie's fiancŽ is Vidor himself. Meanwhile, George is asked to talk with Jack Benny about hosting a dinner for Vidor, which George had hoped to host himself. Commercials deleted.
