RAWHIDE: INCIDENT OF THE GOLDEN CALF (TV)
Summary
One in this western series about the adventures of cattlemen driving herds along the Sedalia Trail, from Texas to Kansas. In this episode, trail boss Gil Favor and his men meet up with Brother Bent, a disheveled man in a frock coat who says that he is a preacher who was driven out of his town when his whole community became crazed with greed after gold was discovered there. Bent says he is good with cattle, and Favor lets him join the drive. As the smooth-talking newcomer preaches to Favor's men about the ills of avarice, he never fails to mention the huge chunks of gold in his home town -- showing them the large nugget he keeps in his pocket as a visual aid -- and in the process piquing their interest in the location of this sinful place. Meanwhile, Favor senses that his herd is being followed and sets a trap that catches a band of gun-toting herdsmen, led by Clint Crowley. They've lost their cattle to Texas Fever, and are trying to get their hands on Favor's herd; but Favor is able to disarm them and send them away. However, it seems that Crowley has more up his sleeve when Favor later loses his team of herdsmen to "gold fever," and Favor suspects that there may be some connection between the good preacher and Crowley.
