ABC THEATER: SOMETHING ABOUT AMELIA (TV)

Summary

One in this occasional series of dramas. This made-for-television movie examines how one family deals with incest. At first glance, the Bennetts seem to be an ordinary family, but it becomes clear that there is a great deal of underlying tension, particularly between the parents, Gail and Steven, and their eldest daughter Amelia. When a school counselor talks to Amelia to find the cause of her slipping grades, Amelia confesses that she has been sexually abused by her father. Although Steven and Gail deny the abuse charges, Amelia is taken into protective custody. Despite the lack of support from her family, Amelia maintains her accusations against her father. Eventually, with the help of social workers and therapists, the Bennetts begin the long process of coming to terms with the sexual abuse and repairing their relationships as a family.
