HALLMARK HALL OF FAME: EAGLE IN A CAGE (TV)
Summary
One in this series of dramatic specials presented by Hallmark. This program concerns the exile of defeated French ruler Napoleon to the island of St. Helena. At first, Napoleon and his coterie are hopeful that the famed emperor can escape from the South Atlantic and return to power in France. When several escape plots fail, Napoleon begins to write his memoirs. He believes their publication will incite riots in France, forcing the British to return him to power. When his trusted aides begin to doubt him and his health falters, Napoleon can find solace only in the completion of his memoirs and in his friendship with a young village girl, Betsy Balcombe. Includes commercials. (This is a black-and-white copy of a color telecast.)

(Beginning with the live telecast of the opera "Amahl and the Night Visitors" on December 24, 1951, Hallmark has sponsored a series of dramatic specials which, since 1952, has aired under the title "Hallmark Hall of Fame." From 1952 to 1955 Hallmark also presented "Hallmark Hall of Fame," a weekly half-hour dramatic anthology series hosted by Sarah Churchill. The first program, "Dr. Serocold," was televised in January 1952 under the title "Hallmark Television Theatre." This series also ran under the title "Hallmark Summer Theatre" in July and August 1952.)
