CHEVY MYSTERY SHOW, THE: ENOUGH ROPE {COLUMBO} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of mystery/suspense programs sponsored by Chevrolet. In "Enough Rope" (which marks the first appearance of the character Columbo, later played by Peter Falk), prominent psychologist Roy Fleming and his mistress, Susan Hudson, plan an elaborate scheme to kill Roy's wife, Claire. Roy and Claire are supposed to be going away for a quiet weekend together but he strangles her before they leave. Roy makes it look like a robbery by breaking a window and taking silver and jewelry with him as he and his mistress (disguised as Claire) go on the trip. The couple stage a fight just after boarding their plane. Susan, dressed as Claire, storms off the plane in a huff, and Roy leaves for the weekend. After Claire's body is found, Lt. Columbo (played by Bert Freed) is assigned to the case. Although Roy and Susan's plan seems to have been carried out flawlessly, Columbo keeps digging for new clues and finally trips them up with a minor detail. Includes commercials.
