EMMY AWARDS, THE 34TH ANNUAL (TV)

Summary

This program contains the thirty-fourth annual Emmy Awards presentation, hosted by Marlo Thomas and John Forsythe. Tommy Lasorda and members of the Los Angeles Dodgers join casts of various television series for an opening musical production number that salutes "The Television Family." Carter and Fern Field, children's program ("The Wave"); Debbie Allen, choreography ("Fame"); Sidney Ganis and Howard Kazanjian, informational special ("The Making of Raiders of the Lost Ark"); Merton Koplin, Charles Grinker, and Betsy MaCarthy, informational series ("Creativity with Bill Moyers"); performers Andre de Shields and Nell Carter for outstanding individual achievement, special class ("Ain't Misbehavin'"); and Harve Bennett and Gene Corman for outstanding drama special ("A Woman Called Golda"), awarded by Eric Sevareid. Thomas and Forsythe conclude the program with a tribute to Kate Smith, who arrives on stage in a wheelchair as Bob Hope and the audience sing "God Bless America," the closing number.
