COLUMBO: MURDER BY THE BOOK {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
The original premiere in this series of police dramas in which Los Angeles homicide detective Lt. Columbo's unassuming manner masks his keen intelligence and sharp investigative abilities. In this episode, writer Jim Ferris wants to leave the mystery writing team of Ferris and Franklin so he can start to craft more serious literature. But Ken Franklin, who hasn't been able to truly write in years, is angry about the split and kills Ferris for vengeance and the insurance money. The crime is almost perfect: yet Lilly LaSanka, a local store owner, was a witness and proceeds to blackmail Franklin. But Franklin lures LaSanka into a rowboat and drowns her before Lt. Columbo has a chance to speak with her.
