ABC NOVEL FOR TELEVISION: HERMAN WOUK'S "THE WINDS OF WAR," EPISODE 1: THE WINDS RISE (TV)
Summary
Episode one of this eighteen-hour, seven-part miniseries, presented under the umbrella of "ABC Novel for Television" about the experiences of U.S. Navy officer Victor "Pug" Henry and his family from 1939 to 1941 set against the backdrop of World War II. Pug, en route with Rhoda to Berlin, where he is to serve as Naval Attache, meets Pamela Tudsbury. Meanwhile, Pug's son, Byron Henry travels to Italy to work for Dr. Jastrow and meets Jastrow's niece, Natalie. Byron falls in love with Natalie and accompanies her to Poland, where she is to join her fiancee, Leslie Slote, an American diplomat.
Hitler invades Poland; Palmer Kirby meets with Pug and Pug is ordered back to Washington; and Byron Henry and Natalie Jastrow are detained in Poland. Includes commercials. This program is closed-captioned.
