SAGA OF WESTERN MAN: CORTEZ AND THE LEGEND {CORTES AND THE LEGEND} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of irregularly scheduled programs which examine significant events in the history of western civilization through dramatic re-creation. In this program, recreations of historic events and footage of historic locations combine with a narrative comprised, in part, of the words of those who lived during the period to present a chronicle of Spanish conquistador Hernando Cortes's conquest of Mexico in the early 16th century. Program highlights include the following: the history and structure of Aztec civilization; the legend of Quetzalcoatl; the beginning of Cortez's expedition, 1519; Montezuma; Cortes's escape from the city of Tenochtitlan in 1520; and Cortes's capture of the city of Tenochtitlan in 1521. Commercials deleted.
Preservation of the Post–World War II American Television Documentary Collection is supported in part by a Federal Save America’s Treasures grant administered by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
