Summary
One in this dramatic anthology series. In part one of this two-part special live "Playhouse 90," producer Mike Todd and his wife Elizabeth Taylor celebrate the first anniversary of the film "Around the World in 80 Days" by throwing a party at Madison Square Garden. Highlights of this program include the following: Moore introduces the party; Cronkite reports on the circus-like atmosphere and the opening parade, including turn-of-the-century New York sanitation trucks, a Shriners band, a Mummers band, and Keystone Kops; Leonard interviews Taylor; Moore gives background on the making of "Around the World" and Todd and and James Mason "recreate" how Todd conceived the idea for the film; Jim McKay interviews Elsa Maxwell; toastmaster George Jessel introduces Sen. Hubert Humphrey; Leonard interviews Hedda Hopper; Moore introduces Todd "conferring" with Charles Boyer about the balloon in the "Around the World" script; Leonard interviews Ginger Rogers; a "horse parade," matched palominos and their riders; a parade of Siamese; stagecoach and riders from Denver; Moore describes Spanish sequences and ship scenes, and Todd "recreates" how he got the money to finish the film; the New Orleans delegation; delegation from India, with Sir Cedric Hardwicke; and Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh are shown in the audience.
