DECISION: BRITISH COMMUNISM NO. 1: LIBERTY (TV)

Summary

Part one of this three-part documentary on the inner workings of the Communist Party of Great Britain (CPGB). Part one follows the party leadership drafting a new plan, "The British Road to Socialism," calling for peaceful revolution through parliamentary democracy, election of leftist labour governments, and transformation of capitalist Britain into a socialist state -- a model of revolution rejected by party hardliners. This portion examines the open tensions within the CPGB caused by debate over the draft of the plan. Also covered: announcement of the plan; Sid French of pro-Soviet New Communist Party attacks the plan; and CPGB prepares for 1977 Party Congress. (Presented under the umbrella of "Decision."
