Summary

One in this dramatic anthology series. Host Edmond O'Brien opens part one of this adaptation of Henry James' novel about Americans in European society in the early 20th century. In this portion, Kate accepts her rich aunt's offer to live with her, hoping to gain wealth she never had and be free to marry Miles, a poor writer she loves. Milly Theale, a rich but innocent American, meets Miles and is attracted to him. Kate reveals to Miles that Milly is dying. She suggests that he marry Milly, who loves him, inherit her money. Miles refuses, and Kate decides she will no longer see him. When Kate learns of Milly's death, she returns home and is visited by Miles. Includes commercials.
