CBS REPORTS: THE ROCKEFELLERS (TV)

Summary

One in this series of irregularly scheduled in-depth reports. Beginning with John D. Rockefeller, Sr., this documentary details the lives and work of this wealthy American family. Historian Henry Steele Commager discusses John D. Rockefeller, Sr., and the Robber Barons. Walter Cronkite interviews John D. Rockefeller III, and Nelson Rockefeller talks about the Attica Prison uprising.

The focus turns to the generation of Rockefellers that includes Abby Rockefeller Mauze, David, Laurence S., Nelson, Winthrop, and John D. Rockefeller III. Topics covered include their childhood, with film footage; Nelson's private art collection; a discussion about buildings that family members have had built; a discussion about the use of power; David in meetings with Prime Minister Edward Heath and with Aleksei Kosygin; Nelson's campaigns for the presidency; and the next generation of Rockefellers. Commercials deleted.

Preservation of the Post–World War II American Television Documentary Collection is supported in part by a Federal Save America’s Treasures grant administered by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
