ALL IN THE FAMILY: EDITH'S FIFTIETH BIRTHDAY (TV)
Summary
One in this series of comedies about a working-class household presided over by the opinionated Archie Bunker. In this episode, Edith is about to turn fifty and Gloria and Mike are planning a surprise party for her but are worried that Archie will somehow spoil the surprise. While alone in the house, Edith lets a man in who claims he's a policeman but is really a rapist. Edith finds various ways to stall the attacker from raping her and finally gets away from him thanks to a cake burning in the oven. Later at the party, Edith tries to tell Archie what just happened. Forgetting about the party, Archie informs the family about the attempted rape and everyone's initial reactions is to notify the police. Edith refuses to let them and just wants to forget about the whole thing. As time goes by, however, Edith is not herself and Archie can't figure out how to deal with her. Gloria, who had once been through a similiar situation, begs Edith to help the police identify the rapist before he can claim another victim. Commercials deleted.
