PICASSO: A PAINTER'S DIARY (TV)

Summary

This documentary follows the life and career of Pablo Picasso and examines the artist and his work up to the time of the Spanish Civil War, including discussion of the women, friends, and other artists in Picasso's life and how they influenced his work. Appearing in this program are the following: daughter Paloma and son Claude; David Douglas Duncan; Joan Miro; William Rubin of the Museum of Modern Art. After an examination of the blue, rose, and cubist periods, the film follows the artist and his work from the time of the Spanish Civil War to his death in 1973 at the age of ninety-one. Highlights of the second half include the following: a discussion of "Guernica"; an interview with Picasso; and discussion of the women in his life, his later work in ceramics, and the later paintings. Includes appearances by Edouard Pignon and Helene Parmelin.
