Summary
The final episode of this comedy series about Mary Richards, a single career woman working in a television newsroom. In this installment, the station is sold, and the new owner, Mr. Coleman, decides to fire the news staff. Everyone is upset and shocked about the news -- but anchor Ted Baxter takes his feelings to a new level. Ted pulls out all the stops and actually gets to keep his job, amazing everyone. Lou Grant knows that Mary is depressed and surprises her with a visit from two old friends, Phyllis and Rhoda. On the final broadcast, Ted relays a personal note to his friends. Lou has been holding his emotions in check throughout the last day, but he cannot hold back any longer when saying good-bye to everyone. As the program closes, star Mary Tyler Moore introduces the regular cast to the studio audience. Commercials deleted.
