ABC NOVEL FOR TELEVISION: ROOTS, EPISODE 8 (TV)
Summary
Part one of the eighth and final episode of this special series tracing the history of one black family through generations of enslavement in America. The program is set in April 1865 as the slaves receive news of the emancipation. Their land is attacked by the Ku Klux Klan, and Master Harvey has to sell the farm to the senator. Tom goes to the sheriff with proof of the attackers, and the sheriff tells the attackers of the development.
The Klan subsequently captures and whips Tom to set an example to the rest of the black community. George Johnson conspires with the blacks to escape from the senator's farm, who succeed in ambushing Brent. The entire family leaves the farm, and moves to Lauderdale County, Tennessee. The family history is reviewed, and Haley narrates what became of the family. Commercials deleted.
