ABC NOVEL FOR TELEVISION: ROOTS, EPISODE 2 (TV)
Summary
The second episode of this special series, tracing the history of one black family through generations of enslavement in America. This episode begins with an uprising by the slaves at sea. In September 1767, they land in Annapolis and the slaves are put on the auction block. Kunta Kinte is bought by John Reynolds, is given the name Toby, and is brought to Spotsylvania County, Virginia. The overseer, Mr. Ames, discusses the slaves and servitude with Master Reynolds. Kunta Kinte, who has been bound by his feet, finally manages to break his bonds and escape. But ultimately, he is discovered by dogs and whipped. Commercials deleted.
