UGLY BETTY: PETRA-GATE (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy-drama series about Betty Suarez, a young Queens woman trying to make it in the fashion industry despite her unglamorous appearance.
In this episode, Betty considers calling in sick to work after seeing her relationships with Daniel, Christina, and Henry all fall apart in different ways. Hilda tells her to grow up. Meanwhile, Hilda secretly dates Santos while Bradford has just begun his own scandalous affair with Wilhelmina, though she finds feigning interest in the older man quite tiring. Daniel struggles with the Petra situation as Lena attempts to blackmail him in order to get her daughter on Mode's cover. Eventually, Betty goes to work, determined to simply treat it as a job, though Daniel tries his best to make amends. Also, Bradford offers to pay Alexis to quit Mode and leave town.
Amanda flirts with seemingly gay designer Tavares, trying to get free clothes for herself while boosting his career. Soon, Betty is so flustered in dealing with Daniel, Christina, and Henry that she leaves work and goes back to Queens. Daniel struggles to convince Alexis that Petra should appear on Mode's cover in place of Scarlett Johansson. Later, Alexis catches the attention of Brazilian creative director Rodrigo who invites her out for a dinner date. Back home, Hilda tries to convince Betty that she should forgive her work cronies, despite her bad memories from a similar situation in high school revolving around an "anti-prom." Meanwhile, Daniel finds an unusual ally in Henry, who convinces him that he must face his sister and force her to put Petra on the cover. However, Alexis offers a deal to Daniel: She will put Petra on the cover if Daniel resigns his position.
Soon, Betty does return to Mode, finally willing to let Christina back into her life -- as well as Daniel. Meanwhile, after Amanda strips nude in front of Tavares, she realizes that he isn't actually gay; he's simply in the "straight closet." Also, Hilda consults Justin before accepting Santos's marriage proposal. Petra and Lena arrive at Mode for the cover shoot, where Betty -- with Henry's aid -- comes to a startling realization: Petra is actually twenty years old. Elsewhere, Bradford and Wilhelmina gloat over their plan to pay Rodrigo to lure Alexis out of the country. To his regret, Ignacio may likewise find himself leaving America. Includes commercials.
