UGLY BETTY: SOFIA'S CHOICE (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy-drama series about Betty Suarez, a young Queens woman trying to make it in the fashion industry despite her unglamorous appearance.

In this episode, Betty urgently tries -- and fails -- to break onto the "Rise and Shine America" set to speak with Daniel. Then, the show flashes back twenty-four hours, as Daniel and Sofia enjoy breakfast together, with him wondering if they need to follow her much-publicized "steps of love." Meanwhile, Betty begins work as Sofia's assistant at MYW. On her first day she meets Ruthie, an editorial assistant who dresses and acts like Betty. Also, Wilhelmina and Ted LeBeau's relationship heats up, with Wilhelmina consequently arriving at the office in jeans -- and being pleasant to staffers. Meanwhile, Ignacio gets grilled by an immigration department worker, causing him to ask for a new case worker.

For Betty's first assignment, Sofia asks her to write a story about her "fish out of water" experience at Mode. Betty begrudgingly returns to the Mode offices, trying to get quotes for her story from past co-workers Marc, Amanda, Christina, and Daniel. While there, Betty informs Daniel that Sofia fears that he may be having second thoughts about their relationship, which is far from the truth. However, later that day Betty sees Sofia on the street acting overly friendly and giving some cash to another man -- her ex-boyfriend Hunter -- outside a male strip club. That night, Daniel takes Sofia to dinner with his parents. Meanwhile, Betty and Christina visit the strip club, trying to get the full story on Hunter's relationship with Sofia. At the same time, Daniel is proposing to Sofia. Meanwhile, Ted decides that he must leave Wilhelmina to try and fix things with his wife.

The next morning, Wilhelmina returns to the office as the dragon lady once again, much to Marc's delight. Downstairs, Sofia confronts Betty about having questioned Hunter the previous night. However, Betty soon learns that Sofia has been scamming Daniel the whole time, trying to get Daniel to propose to her in under sixty days in order to have a great cover story. Now, the narrative returns to where it began, with Betty trying to break onto the "Rise and Shine America" set to alert Daniel and expose Sofia. However, Sofia takes matters into her own hands, shocking the entire city and Meade organization. As Ignacio tries to make peace with his case worker, Betty realizes that she fits in better at Mode than at MYW, tendering her resignation to Sofia. Finally, as Amanda takes her own form of revenge on Sofia, Betty learns that Daniel has disappeared. Includes commercials.
