UGLY BETTY: AFTER HOURS (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy-drama series about Betty Suarez, a young Queens woman trying to make it in the fashion industry despite her unglamorous appearance.
In this episode, Daniel, unable to find a writer for a hotel review assignment, asks Betty to do it. Meanwhile, Sofia and her team take up residence in the Mode conference room, angering Daniel. Also, Wilhelmina has to entertain good ol' boy Ted LeBeau of Texas, a retail store magnate, in order to hopefully garner his company's ad dollars. Betty gets to spend the whole weekend at a ritzy SoHo hotel -- alienating Walter who had planned to take her to Atlantic City -- by trying to figure out the exact descriptions for her hip surroundings. Meanwhile, Daniel continues trying to figure out what the "tease" Sofia is all about, while Wilhelmina struggles with a way to make Ted "feel at home" by wearing items from his thrifty clothing line.
In her luxurious suite, Betty finds herself accidentally ordering an adult film selection before awkwardly dealing with an attractive masseur -- right before Walter arrives with flowers. Meanwhile, Hilda is forced to make a deal with Justin's estranged father Santos in order to acquire some money for Ignacio's lawyer. Back at the Mode offices, Wilhelmina works hard to convince Ted that he should advertise with the magazine, while Daniel and Sofia get to know each other better over spicy food and a motorcycle ride. At the hotel, Betty and Walter dine at a pretentious gourmet restaurant, totally out of their element. Eventually, Wilhelmina finds herself drinking pitchers of beer with Ted at a loud dive bar, totally out of her element as well.
After a heated billiards match, Daniel finds himself in the throes of passion with Sofia. Betty thinks Walter is sabotaging her hotel review, but he thinks she is trying to be someone she is not. Wilhelmina soon realizes that no matter how many shots she does with Ted, he's probably not going to advertise with Mode; however, he may have some helpful advice for dealing with Nico. Ultimately, Ted shocks Wilhelmina and decides to advertise, while Daniel gets the rug pulled out from under him by Sofia. Hilda also gets a surprise when she finds out what's going on with Santos. Meanwhile, Betty realizes that Walter is right, before finding that someone important is a fan of her writing. Includes commercials.
