UGLY BETTY: TRUST, LUST AND MUST (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy-drama series about Betty Suarez, a young Queens woman trying to make it in the fashion industry despite her unglamorous appearance.
In this episode, the Suarezes worry that Ignacio may be deported, needing $20,000 to retain a lawyer. At the Mode office, Daniel meets the feisty and mysterious Sofia Reyes and tries to cozy up to her. Also, Wilhelmina works on the Mode "Must" issue, while also dealing with her stubborn daughter Nico. Meanwhile, Betty gets a second job -- selling herbal weight loss pills -- in order to earn extra cash for her father's case. While hawking her Herbalux, Hilda meets fast-talking lawyer Leah Feldman. Eventually, Daniel learns that Sofia -- a best-selling female empowerment author -- is the newest hire in the Meade family of magazines. While trying to make a power play on Daniel, Wilhelmina is yet again interrupted by her daughter: Nico has gotten arrested for shoplifting. Meanwhile, Daniel -- with Betty's help -- tries to figure out how to properly seduce Sofia after his earlier gaffes.
With nowhere else to turn, Hilda and Betty resort to selling Herbalux at the Mode lunch room, where the weight loss pills sell like hotcakes. That is, until Wilhelmina stops their sales efforts, chastising Betty before cutting her a check for the $20,000 she needs, seemingly with no strings attached. However, Betty isn't so sure her father deserves the money after a certain discovery she has made. Betty also doesn't want to cash the check because it would mean giving Wilhelmina a part of her "soul." Elsewhere, Amanda comes clean to Daniel during pillow talk about having taken his watch, then leaves when he fails to show any emotion. At the same time, Fey's birthday has arrived, and Bradford thinks he sees Fey lurking at her own crypt.
Eventually, Daniel finds himself stuck in a faulty elevator with Sofia, infuriating her. The take-charge Sofia is forced to do a "Die Hard"-esque maneuver in an attempt to rescue them, but things go spectacularly wrong. Hilda goes back to Leah, looking for some friendly representation. Also, Nico tries to yet again thwart her mother's career, but Wilhelmina is able to skillfully fix the problem -- but still not able to prove her worth as a mother. Finally, Ignacio tells Betty and Hilda the dark truth about his past. Includes commercials.
