AMERICAN FAMILY: JOURNEY OF DREAMS; THE WEDDING {SEASON TWO PREMIERE} (TV)

Summary

The first of two episodes on this tape. One in this drama series about a Latino family living in Los Angeles.

The second season's premiere episode opens in Mexico of 1915 as family matriarch Adela tries to get her baby son christened, though violence from the escalating Mexican Revolution is all around them. The ceremony is upset by Pancho Villa's soldiers, who shoot Adela's husband as she and her two older children watch in horror. Adela and the children find refuge in a cave, where a vengeful hag puts a curse on Adela and her descendants. In East Los Angeles of 2003, Adela's great-grandson Esteban Gonzalez marries his longtime love, Ofelia, and celebrates with his family and friends at home. Esteban's conservative father, Jess, is distracted, having just been told by Esteban's older brother, Conrado, of his orders to go to Kuwait as an army doctor. Jess reflects on happier times, thinking back to when his five children -- Conrado, Esteban, Cisco, Nina and Vangie -- still believed in Santa Claus. Conrado runs into his old lover, Alicia, who is now married. Jess gives Conrado a compass which helped Adela find her way from Mexico to America, thinking it will help Conrado find his way home, too. As the episode ends, Conrado's unit in Kuwait is sent to Iraq.
