Summary

The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is the largest organization of global broadcasters, with members from sixty-three countries and over 350 companies. Top television and media leaders come together to exchange ideas, discuss common issues, and promote new strategies for the future development of highquality global television programming. The Academy recognizes excellence in programming produced and initially aired outside of the United States in eight categories: Arts Programming, Children & Young People, Comedy, Documentary, Drama Series, News Coverage, Non-scripted Entertainment, and TV Movie/Mini-series. The deadline for submissions is on April 1 of each year. The competition undergoes three rounds of judging in the United States and abroad, and nominations are announced in October. The competition culminates with the International Emmy Awards Gala, traditionally held on the fourth Monday of November.

Documentary Winner: "The Boy Whose Skin Fell Off" In 2003 Jonny Kennedy, aged thirty-six, died of skin cancer. His condition was triggered by EB (dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa), a terrible genetic affliction in which the skin literally falls off at the slightest touch, leaving the body covered in painful sores and blisters. Jonny agreed to chronicle the last four months of his life with producer/director Patrick Collerton. This truthful and inspiring documentary challenges our attitudes about death, disability, and courage. (United Kingdom; 50 minutes; Yipp Films for Channel 4)
