STEPHEN KING'S KINGDOM HOSPITAL: HOOK'S KINGDOM {EPISODE 5} (TV)
Summary
The fifth in this thirteen-part miniseries, developed by Stephen King and based on Lars von Trier's "The Kingdom," about ghostly happenings experienced by staff and visitors at a hospital in Lewiston, Maine. This episode begins with Paul trying to choke Peter. Before he completes the job, Mary arrives and signals for Antubis, who chases Paul away. Afterward, Peter tries to communicate with Carrie but he is unable to mention anything more than something about "a little girl." Hearing about this, Dr. Hook knows he must bring Sally in to use her psychic talents on Peter. Meanwhile, Reverend Jimmy Criss leads a group book discussion at the mission. There, one of the homeless men, Frank Schweigen, flips out and begins ranting before attacking Jimmy. Frank claims something is in his head and is taken to the hospital. At the same time, Dr. Hook hints at what's ahead for Dr. Stegman as he prepares to join the Keepers. Frank's brain is scanned and found to have a "homicidal octopus" tumor in it. Dr. Stegman operates on Frank, with Dr. Sonny Gupta commenting on how much Frank looks like Elmer. Then, Jesse speaks with Abel and Christa, who ask for a favor. Later, Dr. Hook speaks with Christine, who complains about her lack of access to good medicine and equipment. Dr. Hook gives her a tour of the quarters beneath the hospital, revealing that he thinks he has seen Mary and that Sally believes Peter knows something about the little girl.
During Dr. Stegman's operation, Frank seems to wake up and speak while under anesthesia. Frank notices Mary standing beside Dr. Stegman and refers to her as "an angel." Still underground, Hook tells Christine about the previous hospital, the "Old Kingdom," which burned to the ground. Hook then takes Christine to his actual home under the hospital, intriguing and impressing her. Together they drink some "Alzheimer's wine" as they await Sally's arrival. Hook tells Christine that there is a price to be paid for evil and incompetence and that he keeps track of such cases within Kingdom via his "mini-graveyard." He explains that the tiny crosses in pots of dirt denote a patient that died due to malpractice, also listing which physician was responsible. Christine takes exception when finding herself as part of Dr. Hook's graveyard but ultimately admits to her own medical shortcomings. Elsewhere, Stegman's incompetence leads to Frank dying on the table. Afterward, Stegman goes searching for the orderly who defaced his car. He again finds that Johnny B. Goode is absent from his station, temporarily replaced by a man called Jackie Gleason. At the same time, Mona paints, inspired by the sound of chanting spirits. Later, Sonny runs into Elmer in the locker room and tells him about his uncanny resemblance to the recently deceased Frank. Meanwhile, Dr. Hook secures a microscope for Christine, deeply touching her. When Elmer finally comes face to face with Frank, he is unable to see a resemblance, at least initially. Finally, back in "Old Kingdom, Paul tries to put an end to Antubis. Includes commercials.
