Summary
The premiere of this telenovela about Pedro Coral, a
wannabe Don Juan with a big mouth, terrible taste in
clothes, and a mullet. The episode opens on Pedro (sans
mullet) and Paula D‡vila, the "love of his life," on the
way to her wedding to CŽsar Luis Fraydel. Pedro then
offers to tell the story of this fiasco, and the rest of
the episode (and the telenovela) proceeds in flashbacks
explained by Pedro's narration. It begins with
Pedro's arrival in Bogota in shorts and a short sleeve
shirt, with his prized boots in a plastic bag, after
fleeing some woman troubles back home. Paula also
arrives in the city on the same day; after meeting her
mother Ana, she faces a difficult reunion with her
estranged father, her mother's lover of twenty-five
years, Don Juan Pacheco. Meanwhile, Pedro meets the
only relative he can turn to in the city, a flamboyant
and amorous cousin named Nidia, who turns out to be Don
Pacheco's wife. After meeting the two daughters of the
family, Mayerli and Yadira, Pedro meets the patriarch of
the family, only to witness Don Pacheco kill himself
with a revolver. Despite her daughter's protests, Ana
decides to attend the funeral and a confrontation ensues
between Nidia and Ana, with Nidia making a scene when
she realizes that Paula is Pacheco's illegitimate
daughter. Later at the burial, in an attempt to avoid a
confrontation, Paula and her mother wait until the
others have left to pay their last respects. Meanwhile,
Pedro, convinced that he has fallen for the youngest
daughter Mayerli, is rebuffed when he tries to console
her during the funeral, but he finds her more receptive
later at the burial. Nidia, hoping for some consoling
from Pedro herself, decides to lay down the law, and
upon their return from the burial, announces she would
like her two daughters out of the house.
