HELEN OF TROY {PART 2 OF 2} (TV)
Summary
Part two of this two-part movie about Helen of Troy's role in the legendary Trojan War. In part two, Greek warships are spotted approaching Troy and the council of elders meets to decide whether Helen should return to Sparta; over Cassandra's protests, the king and council welcome Helen into his kingdom and dub her Helen of Troy and the battle between the Aegeans and the Trojans begins. After Hector and Paris have a successful day of combat, King Priam grows weary of Cassandra's portents of doom -- which include ten years of siege and the destruction of Troy -- and imprisons her in the dungeon. After ten years pass the weary Greeks, who remain outside Troy's walls, and the Trojans agree to single-combat for possession of Helen and an end to the war. Paris and Menelaus fight to an unsatisfactory draw. When Agamemnon demands to fight Paris himself, Hector decides to fight in his brother's place; Achilles then steps in for Agamemnon and kills Hector. Helen, told by Cassandra that her surrender will end the war, attempts to give herself to Agamemnon, who refuses. Paris follows her, kills Achilles, and is in turn killed by Agamemnon. Helen returns to the city and watches with the grieving king as a wooden horse -- apparently left by the Greeks as tribute -- is wheeled through city gates. After a night celebrating, the Trojans are caught unaware when the Greeks, hidden inside the horse, emerge and lay waste to Troy, looting the city and slaughtering its citizens, including the king and queen. After raping Helen, Agamemnon is confronted by Clytemnestra who has come to Troy to avenge the death of Iphigenia, who Agamemnon had sacrificed to gain favorable winds for the voyage to Troy. Helen visits the place where Paris was killed and Paris visits her in a vision; she is then found by Menelaus, with whom she agrees to return to Sparta. This program is closed-captioned.
