HELEN OF TROY {PART 1 OF 2} (TV)

Summary

Part one of this two-part movie about Helen of Troy's role in the legendary Trojan War. In part one, Prince Alexandrius of Troy is abandoned to die after his sister, Cassandra, prophesies his role in Troy's destruction. Raised by a goatherd who finds him, Paris, as he is now called, lives an uneventful life until one day he is visited by the goddesses Athena, Hera, and Aphrodite who show him a golden apple through which he sees a vision of the most beautiful woman in the world. Paris lives the life of a goatherd until the theft of a prize bull by the Trojan King Priam's men prompts him to go to Troy to retrieve his bull. When he participates in a court tournament, Cassandra recognizes him as her cursed younger brother. Though Cassandra and Prince Hector protest, King Priam welcomes Paris back into the family. In the meantime, the girl of Paris's vision, Helen, attends the wedding of her sister Clytemnestra to Agamemnon of Mycenae, at which she is kidnapped by Theseus, King of Athens. After years of searching, Helen is found by her brother, Pallux, who is killed taking Helen from Theseus. Now without an heir, King Tyndareus of Sparta marries Helen to Menelaus, who wins the right to marry Helen in a contest with the other Aegean kings who then pledge to protect the marriage at all costs. When Paris arrives in Sparta as Priam's emissary, he falls in love with Helen (who had also seen Paris in a vision and fallen in love with him) and takes her to Troy. The Aegean kings unite under Agamemnon's leadership to retrieve Helen. This program is closed-captioned.
