LAW & ORDER {LAW AND ORDER}: CRIMINAL INTENT: ART (TV)

Summary

One in this series of dramas -- a spin-off of "Law & Order" -- that deals with the investigation, arrest, and prosecution of criminals, but with a slight twist: each episode begins from the criminal's point of view as the actual crime is committed. This episode concerns the staged murder/suicide of a noted artist and his museum curator mistress. The episode begins with artist Bernard Jackson, dealer Rudy Langer, and curator Anne Ellis meeting in Jackson's loft to discuss an important art deal. When Goren arrives on the murder/suicide scene the next day, he immediately knows that it is staged and that something is up. Goren's surprising breadth of art knowledge serves him well as he continually catches his suspects in the art community off guard, quickly learning that Ellis suspected a multimillion-dollar Monet piece that her museum possessed was a forgery. Goren links the Monets and other potential forgeries to the arrogant German art dealer Langer who remains remarkably cool under the investigation. After finding out that Langer and Jackson were in a massive forgery ring as part of a tax scam, Goren realizes that the only way to make the dominoes fall in the investigation is to find the elusive Monet forger.
