NUESTRO' LATIN MUSIC AWARDS} {SPANISH} {TAPE 2 OF
3} (TV)

Summary

Continued from T:76410. Tape two of three. The thirteenth edition (2001) of this yearly music awards presentation program which honors Latin music achievements in the United States. This year's program, broadcast live from the James L. Knight Convention Center in Miami, is co-hosted by popular Spanish-language television figures Fernando Arau and Marco Antonio Regil. This year -- in an expansion of previously existing categories as well as the addition of some new ones -- awards are given in the categories of Pop, Tropical, Regional Mexican, Rock, Music Video, People's Choice, and Internet. Other awards include an award for excellence, given to an artist for his/her lifetime contribution to Latin music, an award for a "Young Star," which recognizes a young artist in the prime of a successful career, and the first ever Posthumous Award. Presentations and performances in this segment include the following: Vladimir Dotel of the group Ilegales, Oscar Serrano of Grupo Man’a, and Hector Acosta of Los Toros Band present the award for best grupera interpretation, Regional Mexican, to Joan Sebastian; co-host Marco Antonio Regil announces the winners of the "Premio Lo Nuestro" Internet vote for favorite arist with Banda El Recodo winning in the Regional Mexican category, Carlos Vives in Tropical, and Azul Azul in Pop, and all three artists go onstage to accept the awards; Frances Ondiviela and salsa producer Johnny Pacheco present the award for best song, Tropical, to "A puro dolor" by Son By Four, produced by Omar Alfanno and Oscar Llord, and composed by Omar Alfanno, who goes onstage to accept the award along with the band; Carmen Salinas presents a video tribute to Joan Sebastian and presents him with the award for excellence; Sebastian then performs his hit "Secreto de amor." Four more awards are announced quickly by screen shot: best salsa interpretation, Tropical, goes to Son By Four; best female artist, Pop, goes to Christina Aguilera; best tejana interpretation, Regional Mexican, goes to Intocable; and best female artist, Tropical, goes to Gisselle. Co-host Fernando Arau does a stand-up routine, then introduces Banda El Recodo and their performance of "No puedo vivir sin ti"; immediately afterward, Paquita La Del Barrio and Rafael JosŽ present them with the award for best banda interpretation, Regional Mexican; Yolanda del R’o and Bobby Pulido present the award for best group or duo, Tropical, to Son By Four, who are not in the auditorium, so their producer Omar Alfanno accepts on their behalf. Marta Susana presents a video tribute to actress/singer Libertad Lamarque; Daniela Romo performs "Caminito," a song Lamarque was known for, interspersed with black-and-white footage of Lamarque's own performance on film; Romo then presents the Posthumous Award to Larmarque's daughter Mirtha de Luca and personal assistant Irene L—pez. Saœl Lisazo and Galilea Montijo present the award for best male artist, Regional Mexican, to Pepe Aguilar, who accepts via satellite from Mexico; Son By Four performs their hit "A puro dolor"; Giselle Blondet, Ana Mar’a Conseco, and Eduardo Ver‡stegui present the award for best album, Tropical, to Son By Four for their self-titled album; three awards are presented in screen shots: best new artist, Pop, goes to Christina Aguilera; best music video goes to Ricky Martin for "She bangs", directed by Wayne Isham; and best album, Rock, goes to Shakira for "MTV Unplugged: Shakira"; Carmen Jara and Lupillo Rivera present the People's Choice award, Tropical, to Elvis Crespo (not present); El Poder del Norte performs "A ella"; Laura Le—n and Renan Almendarez present the award for best song, Regional Mexican, to "Secreto de amor," performed, produced, and composed by Joan Sebastian. Includes commercials and promos. Commercials include Irene Espa–a for Johnson & Johnson and Alex Rodriguez for Speed Stick. Continues with T:76412.
