Continued from T:71629. One of several segments of live and continuous coverage of the countdown leading up to the year 2000, as aired on TV Azteca in Mexico. This segment begins at 15:51:00 in the countdown and runs until 13:51:18, about two hours. This segment continues with host Javier Alatorre in the studio live with Sergio Vicke in New Zealand. Images show more celebrations, and the first child born in 2000 in New Zealand, as well as the first couple to be married. From the Z—calo in Mexico City, Edgar Garc’a reports on the planned New Year's celebration that will take place there. Next, from a helicopter flying over Mexico, reporter Marco Campillo describes the city as people prepare for the evening. Merced Parra presents a special report on the religions and cultures which follow different calendars: the Muslim calendar, which is in the year 1369, the Jewish, which is in 5760, and the Chinese which is in 4800. Back in the studio, astrologer Julia Palacios joins host Javier Alatorre to discuss good luck traditions for the New Year. Images from Australia show a man who began the year by bungee jumping. Next, Gloria Witt reports from Cancun, covering different parts of the city and showing images of the beach where over 60,000 balloons will be released in the afternoon to commemorate the end of the year. Marco Campillo reports again from helicopter, flying over the pyramids of Teotihuac‡n and commenting on the various sacred places of Mexico. In the studio, two guests join host Javier Alatorre: Amaranda and Juan Carlos MŽndez. They discuss dinner options for the New Year, and watch the images showing the remaining two minutes of the year in Japan and celebrations in Tonga. Back in Mexico, Armando Contreras reports from the home of the Bonilla family, who were selected by the program to show the viewers how they celebrate New Year's Eve throughout the day. Elda Molina reports from Monterrey's city square and narrates a segment on the traditional way of cooking goat. Back in the studio, Lorena PŽrez J‡come and Marcos ValdŽs introduce a musical performance by Los Tucanes de Tijuana, singing "Ritmo Navide–o." Juan Luis Rodr’guez reports from Acapulco where he speaks with the conductor of the Acapulco Philharmonic, Eduardo Alvarez, who will perform in the evening with large screens on the beach showing the concert to all the people celebrating there. Back in the studio, in a kitchen set up to present some of the meals that will be served for New Year's Eve, reporter Pablo Latap’ interviews Francisco Su‡rez, from the restaurant La Cantina de Mexico, together with the chef, and they cook the final stages of the dishes "mole de olla" and "sopa de migas." Footage from Wall Street, in New York, shows Muhammad Ali rings the stock market closing bell on the last trading day of the year. Back in the studio, the two guests leave and Javier Alatorre continues reporting with Pablo Latap’. Ana Winocur reports from Las Vegas on the city's main boulevard, which will host over 800,000 people that evening to celebrate the New Year; much police security was organized and fireworks were banned in the city. Images from the Dawn Islands and the Kiribati Islands show live coverage of traditional dance and music on the beach in celebration of the new millennium. Hannia Novell reports from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, showing the traditional Samba dancers preparing for the evening. Jaime Guerrero reports live from the San Pedro Plaza in Rome, where concerts and music will take place and where people will gather to hear Pope John Paul II speak from the balcony of the Basilica. Next, Alberto Gomez reports from Madrid, talking about the traditions in Spain and the history of some of its monuments. Tape ends abruptly. Continues with T:71662.
