BUSH WHITE HOUSE, THE: INSIDE THE REAL WEST WING (TV)
Summary
This special, hosted by Tom Brokaw, shows an up close and personal day in the life of President George W. Bush and the White House. The program begins when Bush's day begins, at 6:50 a.m. he makes his way to the West Wing. Along the way he runs into Chief of Staff Andy Card and national security adviser Condoleezza Rice, who are to brief him on the day's upcoming terrorism matters. Next, Bush talks on the phone with British Prime Minister Tony Blair. In the highly secretive "Situation Room," the National Security Council gathers for a meeting. Next, Brokaw talks with Vice President Dick Cheney about Enron's place in the current corporate scandals. Press secretary Ari Fleischer meets with the press corps for an informal session. As noon approaches, Bush works out lifting weights for an hour. After lunch with Cheney, Bush takes a car procession to meet with Jimmy Hoffa, Jr. and the Teamster's Union. Next, First Lady Laura Bush shows Brokaw the living quarters of the White House. The Bushes sit down for an interview with Brokaw in which the following topics are discussed: their ability to sleep on September 11, 2001; the "pretzel incident"; John Walker Lindh; George W. Bush's "over my dead body" tax cuts; Laura Bush's disapproval of some of her husband's language; and press coverage of them. The program ends with George W. Bush showing off the Oval Office.
