DAWSON'S CREEK: PILOT {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)

Summary

The pilot in this series about the romantic exploits of Dawson Leery and his friends in coastal Massachusetts. This episode introduces wholesome film buff Dawson Leery and his best friend Josephine "Joey" Potter, who has lately become uncomfortable with their platonic relationship as the two grow older and enter high school. Also introduced are Dawson's best male friend, the hormonally-overloaded Pacey Witter, and the new girl in town, Jen Lindley, the granddaughter of Dawson's churchgoing neighbors. Joey works at her sister's restaurant while Dawson and Pacey work at the local video store. One day at the video store, Pacey flirts with a beautiful older woman, Tamara Jacobs, who -- coincidentally or not -- rents "The Graduate." Later, Dawson invites Jen back to his bedroom to show off his tribute to Steven Spielberg but Joey mistakes it for a dalliance and grows jealous. Meanwhile, Dawson suspects that his news anchor mother is having an affair with her co-anchor. On the first day of high school, Dawson heightens his pursuit of Jen, much to Joey's disgust, while Pacey learns that Ms. Jacobs is his new English teacher. Dawson goes on a date with Jen to see "Waiting for Guffman," as Joey tags along and tries to cause trouble for them. Meanwhile, Pacey sees Tamara at the theater, with their encounter leading to his fight with Tamara's boyfriend. Dawson bids a tentative goodnight to Jen, then tries to patch things up with Joey by exclaiming how pretty she looks wearing lipstick. Finally, Pacey tells Tamara that she "blew it," after which she passionately kisses him. Commercials deleted.
