SIX FEET UNDER: OUT, OUT BRIEF CANDLE (TV)
Summary
One in this series about the Fisher clan, a loving -- if dysfunctional -- family struggling to maintain a sense of normalcy in the face of the stressful day-to-day operations of the eccentric family business, a funeral home in Los Angeles. In this episode, Cal State football player Joshua Peter Langmead dies of heat stroke during practice. Nate meets with the heartbroken parents and soon begins to be haunted by Langmead's crying ghost. Meanwhile, Claire's friend Andy overdoses, and when Claire discovers he took "fry" -- marijuana cigarettes dipped in embalming fluid -- she realizes that Gabe stole the fluid from her house. Federico and his wife Vanessa find a house they want to buy, but they are $11,000 short for the down payment. Rico asks Nate and David whether he may borrow the money. After the brothers invest in a $20,000 casket display for the house, Nate tells Rico they cannot afford to lend him the money, sparking hostility. One of Ruth's co-workers invites her to attend his graduation from "The Plan," an intense self-help program that gives Ruth a newfound sense of empowerment. Brenda and Nate prepare for a visit from Brenda's ex-boyfriend Trevor, whom Brenda is determined to impress. Back at the funeral home, haughty Mitzi Dalton Huntley, an executive from Kroehner, the corporate funeral business, pays Nate and David a visit to discuss her company's offer to buy out Fisher and Sons. After a successful dinner with Trevor and his family, Brenda shares her confusion about her identity with Nate. Keith invites David to his niece Taylor's ninth birthday party, but the party is less than idyllic. Rico becomes angry when his wife finds the means to borrow the money they need. Nate finally confronts Langmead's ghost and faces his fear about his own illness.
