EVENING SHADE: GOIN' TO THE CHAPEL {PART 1 OF 3} (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about Wood Newton, a former pro football star who returns to his rural hometown in Arkansas to coach the high school football team. In part one of this three-part episode, Evan asks the thirty-three-year-old Fontana to marry him and she gleefully accepts, though she wonders what everyone will think about their age difference. Meanwhile, Frieda returns to the Newtons with Thor, a foreign exchange student from Norway who can't speak a word of English. Then, a frantic Merleen shows up, telling them about a new gazebo she has just ordered that needs to be put together. Later, she reveals what's really on her mind: She just received a distressing letter in the mail. Eventually, she confides that she got pregnant at fifteen and gave the baby away to social services. The letter she got in the mail informed her that her child wants to meet her. Then, Harlan -- still unaware of Merleen's news -- arrives at the Newtons, telling the group that Evan and Fontana are getting married, sending off shockwaves for Frieda in particular. A tearful Ava ultimately convinces Wood to confront Evan, though he is not quite sure what his "mission" is. Commercials deleted.
