STRANGERS WITH CANDY: IS MY DADDY CRAZY? (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series that follows the exploits of Jerri Blank, a forty-six-year-old high-school freshman and self-described former "user, boozer, and loser." In this episode, Jerri finally accepts her stepmother's lover, Stew, as her new father-figure; she even starts to refer to him as "daddy." When Mr. Noblet asks students to volunteer to have their fathers come to class to speak about their jobs, Jerri offers to bring in Stew to speak about the "meat business." Later in the day, though, Jerri starts to notice that Stew is acting strange. When she returns from school, he is stapling slices of American cheese to the roof in an effort to create a smell that will distract the people he believes are "after" him. Later that night, while Jerry is having a sleep-over party, Stew has a psychotic episode that terrifies Jerri's friends. Jerri panics, thinking that she will be humiliated if she brings Stew to speak in her class. Jerri goes to Mr. Jellineck for advice, and he sends her to the (deserted and decrepit) library, where she watches a film strip about mental illness that suggests that the proper treatment is to drill a hole in the sufferer's head in order to release the demons therein. Mr. Noblet starts to pressure Jerri about her "dad's" upcoming speech, saying that it will be a big disappointment if Stew doesn't show up. Meanwhile, other kid's fathers are delivering exceptional speeches; one brings in sample shots of rum from his alcohol business. Jerri decides that she will confront Stew about his situation over dinner at a pizza parlor, but the situation quickly goes from bad to worse. Commercials deleted.
