STRANGERS WITH CANDY: OLD HABITS, NEW BEGINNINGS {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
The premiere in this comedy series that follows the exploits of Jerri Blank, a forty-six-year-old high-school freshman and self-described former "user, boozer, and loser." In this episode, Jerri has difficulty making friends with the other students at Flatpoint High School. She attempts to bond with a group of popular girls in the rest room one afternoon, but she ends up driving the girls away after crossing the boundaries of taste and propriety with a vivid description of a feminine-hygiene problem from which she suffers. Jerri seeks advice from milquetoast art teacher Mr. Jellineck, who insists that all Jerri needs to do is share some of herself with a potential friend. When Jerri later crosses paths with a popular girl named Poppy, she says that she can make some drugs for Poppy to use. Poppy is skeptical, thinking that Jerri is lying to fit in; she insists that Jerri bring her some dope the next day in gym class. Jerri has a moral crisis about making the drugs as it violates her parole, but she finally caves in to the overwhelming desire for popularity. The next day, Jerri brings Poppy a plastic baggy containing a gelatinous green substance that Jerri refers to as "Glint... or, as it's known on the street, 'Satan's Harelip.'" Before Jerri can stop her, the still doubting Poppy takes an enormous dose of Glint and falls quickly into a life-threatening coma. Commercials deleted.
