LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT {LAW AND ORDER: SVU}: WRONG IS RIGHT {SECOND SEASON PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of police dramas -- a spin-off of "Law & Order" -- about the sexual crimes investigated by the elite Special Victims Unit of the New York Police Department. In this installment, Stabler comes upon the burning corpse of a murder victim while driving his daughter home from a day at the beach. The deceased is Andrew Croft, a rocket scientist working for a classified defense contractor. Croft's sixteen-year-old ward, Michael Goran, is now missing, along with Croft's car. The police find Michael upstate with his girlfriend Denise, and he confesses to the killing, giving no motive other than an argument resulting in a struggle. Munch, however, discovers that "Croft" was an assumed identity for a convicted child molester and that the dead man's employers covered up this fact because he was so valuable to the nation's armament program. Michael repeatedly denies that Croft molested him, but when his best friend reveals knowledge of the abuse the young man is forced to admit that he was repeatedly victimized. In so doing, he implicates an accomplice in Croft's pedophilia. Meanwhile, both Stabler and Jeffries are under investigation by a police commission for information they confessed while under psychological evaluation. Commercials deleted.
