ABC ORIGINALS: QUARANTINE (TV)

Summary

In this made-for-television movie, the President of the United States leads the fight against a deadly virus when it is accidentally released after a plane crash. The story begins when President Bob Kempers learns that a terrorist group known as the Gleaming Sword has wiped out a small village somewhere in the world with some sort of deadly biological agent. He gives the order for a covert assault on the terrorists' lair and asks Dr. Galen Bronty of the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta to accompany the mission in order to retrieve samples of the virus. Unfortunately, after a successful assault, the plane carrying the viral samples crash lands at Heathrow airport and explodes, killing the crew and releasing the virus to travelers from all over the world. Within hours, the deadly disease hits the shores of the United States, and the president declares a state of emergency, immediately enacting "Operation: Quarantine," which involves moving the central government to Rigby Island, a remote island off the coast of Seattle. President Kempers attempts to get his wife and daughter to the island, but they are unable to get to Air Force One in time and are forced to stay secluded at a private home on the mainland. Meanwhile, at the Center for Disease Control, Galen Bronty and her team of research scientists begin to work on finding a cure for the virus, now known as "IHV." Back on Rigby Island, the local airport receives word from wealthy businessman Arthur Stone that he is on a mercy mission to save twelve children by bringing them to the quarantined island, but the president gives orders to shoot down the plane if it attempts to land. After a game of chicken, the president blinks first, and the plane is allowed to land, although the passengers are denied permission to disembark from the plane. Bronty's efforts to discover a cure suffer a major setback when a fire breaks out at the CDC, and the virus is released within the building. The CDC is sealed, and the doctors must race against time to find the cure before they all succumb to IHV. After a few days, the doctors discover that certain people -- including Bronty herself -- have a natural ability to fight off the disease, so they begin a search to find the common link between these survivors in order to isolate the antibodies and find a cure. Meanwhile, one of the crewmen on Stone's jet turns out to be a member of the Gleaming Sword and claims to have the cure for the disease. The president rushes off to the airport hear the terrorists' demands, hoping to resolve this crisis once and for all. Includes commercials, promos, and a public service announcement. Commercials include Keenan McCardell and Jimmy Smith for the National Football League.
